Acid Muck Creature

The creatures of the wastelands and the formations of the Black Wasteland probably deserve their own book, but an attempt shall be made to address them here. Most fall into the uncategorizable grouping. This is a cause of great frustration for any who like to organize things. However, an attempt shall be made.

Unlike any of the other life forms – flora or fauna – that inhabit the wastelands there seems no origination species for this creature.

It is aptly named. When dissected, there appears very little in way of a formalized bone structure, instead this structure varies from creature to creature. This leads to the hypothesis that perhaps they emerge from the twisted ground itself and not from a breeding population at all.

The creature does not appear to have a closed circulatory system with veins and arteries. Instead it is an open system with ichors pulsing through just under the skin. When cut, this oozes out and steams lightly as it reacts with the air. When killed, this spatters a great distance and stains the ground even more.

Corroded and digested metal can be found in their innards. It is unknown if this is what they eat or merely the remaining parts of meals that could not pass through their system. They do not appear to travel with a purpose, travelers through the wastelands happen upon them at somewhat random intervals.

No occasion of mating or social interaction has been observed between Acid Muck Creatures, and no evidence of offspring has ever been found. Although at times large numbers of Black Wastelands creatures gather, it does not serve any purpose that researchers have been able to classify.

Quotes

Kaballoi, describing her first sight of an Acid Muck Creature: “It was ma first time en the Black Wastelands. It rather surprised me risin outa the ground so unexpectedly. Steamin and spittin bits a debrie as it came after me. Took all ma dexterity and skill ta avoid bein killed. After that... well... I thought... Gad, gonna have to clean my weapons and armour more often. Acid don't be kind ta either.”
