Strange Creatures

Little is known of these… strange creatures. We do not even know if they have a language or social structure. From what information has been gathered, certain hypothesis may be put forth. There are two populations - one in the depths of a series of glowing caverns, and the other on the plains near a strange glowing crater. In both places, the area glows. The glow from the area on the plains is much fainter.

One must wonder if perhaps it is the glowing that gives these beings sustenance for none have been observed to eat anything. Both populations appeared after meteors ploughed craters into the ground nearby. It is not even known if the cave complex is something that was manufactured by them or occurred naturally and then taken advantage of. The presence of petrified trees indicates that at one time the area was fully silt and water impregnated or that something about the strange creatures caused rapid petrification.

The cavern population is bathed in this strange light constantly, and they are also sturdier and stronger than their compatriots on the plains. This leads to the potential conclusion that the glowing light gives them strength as well. It has also been suggested Sunrifter’s rays might weaken them as the beings are not used to them. Indeed, when one is found outside of the caverns, perhaps heading toward the human guild structures to the north, it appears weaker and will confront only the less experienced Adventurous. Inside the caverns one can see other evidence of these beings’ oddities.

Their upper limbs are clawed and can even carve into walls of the caverns. Their gait is strange, and their lower limbs do not leave the usual four or five toed imprint of most Valornian creatures. They are attired in outfits of a metallic substance, some of which have been recovered intact. (Some Adventurous have even found these outfits comfortable to wear.)They carry strange metal that is not mined in Valorn, along with odd stones found nowhere else. When properly treated, this metal makes fine, water-repelling boots.

No breeding, courting, or hierarchical behavior has been observed. Then again, taking into account the strangeness of these beings, observers might not be able to understand it even if it occurred in front of them. On rare occasion two or more have been found in the same area. Each appears stranger than the next. Only in side-by-side comparison is one able to say which is stranger or strangest.

Quotes

Vardian: “The strange creatures.... well.....I believe they come from the sky. They seem...less threatening to me than other creatures.”
